Silvana Barros, DDS, MS. PhD is Director of Clinical Innovation at Colgate Palmolive. She previously served as Professor of the Department of Comprehensive Oral Health Periodontology at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with activities involving clinical practice, teaching, mentorship of grad students and postdocs on translational and clinical research. Dr. Barros received from the American Academy of Periodontology (AAP) the awards for Outstanding Teaching and Mentoring in Periodontics and Clinical Research Award, she also was a recipient of the UNC Creativity Hub Inaugural Award focusing on Transdisciplinary Approaches for Precision Research. She is the Past President of the NC division of the American Association for Dental Research (ADR) and a member of the advisory board of several scientific journals Dr. Barros is internationally recognized for her work on the generation of the genomics evidence base and epigenetics as a modifiable risk factor in periodontal diseases and on the association of periodontal disease and systemic health.
